One World Week 2011
Censorship and Freedom of Speech
UCLU’s One World Week 2011 will focus on a theme of censorship and freedom of speech throughout the world.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights states:‘Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression.’
Censorship seeks to suppress that basic right to speak freely and is experienced in faith, culture, gender, sexuality, arts, literature, film, comedy and much more.
UCLU presents an exciting mix of events to stimulate a lively debate around this theme through inspiring, interactive and educational events. Events are organised by UCL Union (UCLU), its clubs & societies and UCL Departments. Events include; ‘Freedom of Speech and Censorship’ Exhibition, ‘The Face of Blasphemy’ panel event, a look at the ‘Balkans Today’ in an open discussion, a look at ‘Censorship in Comedy’, the One World Week Fayre, an evening of insight into ‘Aid Work in Francophone Countries’, a look at ‘Islam & Women – Freedom or Oppression?’, a discussion about ‘Freedom of Speech on campus’ at UCL, plus lots, lots more.
There are lots events from check out the full programme here.
